2023 was a momentous year for Wisk. We pushed forward in our mission to make everyday flight a reality for everyone and we did so through collaboration. Collaboration between employees, Boeing, partners, industry stakeholders, municipalities, and many more.
Here’s a look back at some of the highlights and milestones from 2023:
We welcomed our new CEO, Brian Yutko
After leading Wisk from 2019-2023, our former CEO, Gary Gysin, made the decision to retire. After an executive search process, we selected Dr. Brian Yutko as our new Chief Executive Officer. Gary helped Wisk become a recognized leader in AAM and helped lay the foundation for both our company and the future of mobility. Brian’s deep expertise in aviation, passion for autonomy, and leadership are now pushing Wisk forward in fulfilling our commitment to bring the first self-flying, eVTOL air taxi to the US.
We made friends with new partners
We partnered with Japan Airlines to bring autonomous flight to Japan. Through this partnership, we are researching the launch of fleet operations (type certification and maintenance, repair and overhaul requirements) and entering discussions with the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) on the establishment of a Wisk operation. Our ultimate goal will be the introduction of autonomous aircraft into the Japanese national airspace system.
We went all-in with Boeing
One of our greatest strengths has always been our relationship with Boeing – both as an investor and a strategic partner. That’s why, in early 2023, we became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boeing. Through this relationship, we are uniquely positioned to tap into Boeing’s wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise, allowing us to accelerate development, reduce risk, and streamline certification.
We made aviation history
Our history of flight spans over a decade, with flights on two continents – including a number of industry and aviation firsts. We continued to make history in 2023 – not once, not twice, but three times. Including our first public-demonstration at EAA Airventure in Oshkosh (video / press release), to becoming the first eVTOL air taxi company to fly in the Los Angeles area (video / press release), to the first-of-their-kind airspace integration flights in New Zealand (video / press release).
We brought you along on our journey
We know that bringing stakeholders along on the journey is critical to both our success and the success of the broader industry. This year, we published a number of indepth stories that expanded on our overall vision and approach, and explained in greater details how our systems work – including: certification of autonomous, passenger carrying aircraft, the role of the multi-vehicle supervisor, the economic impact of AAM, the roadmap for AAM, consensus standards development, and more!
Farewell 2023, Hello 2024!
As 2023 comes to a close, we look back at all that we’ve accomplished with pride and humility. We also look forward to 2024 with excitement. Next year, we will absolutely continue our momentum, as we finish building Generation 6 and complete it’s first flight.
