From Drawing Board to Hangar: What It Took to Build Our Gen 6 Aircraft

The first time I saw our Gen 6 aircraft fully assembled at our hangar in Hollister, I didn't just see a piece of machinery; I saw the culmination of years of passion, ingenuity, and relentless hard work from everyone at Wisk.

The path to this moment has been paved by the five generations that came before it, with each design iteration teaching us critical lessons. The completion of the FTX-1 build is not a simple production milestone; it’s a pivotal moment for Wisk and the future of autonomous Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). It signifies that the complex, integrated systems we designed are all now a unified reality.

But what truly makes this milestone significant isn't the technology itself—it's the team that built it.

To say that the team dedicated themselves to this aircraft would be an understatement. We worked long hours, long days, and long weeks.

I remember one particularly late night. I pulled the team into a huddle to thank them for their dedication. Before I could finish, one of our technicians stopped me. He said, “Leon, no need to say more. Someday, there will be thousands of these aircraft flying in the sky. And on that day I will tell my son: ‘I was there when we built the first one.’"

This is what defines Wisk—the people who are so incredibly dedicated to our collective mission and driven by the opportunity of the challenge. We are not just building an aircraft; we are changing the future, one bolt, wire, and system at a time.

Personally, this build has been the most rewarding experience of my career. It proves that when you bring together a diverse group of experts—all focused on a singular, inspiring goal—anything is possible.

Now, as we prepare to see Gen 6 take to the skies, that collective feeling of pride and commitment only intensifies. This is the hard-earned reward for every member of the Wisk team.

Thank you to every engineer, technician, support staff member, and visionary who poured their passion and love into making the Gen 6 a reality. We did it together.
